Ashley Groshek

She/Her/Hers

Now Accepting New Clients

Ashley Groshek (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and has been working in the mental health field her entire adult life. She is a white queer person and identifies as genderqueer, disabled, neurodivergent, and as a widow. She is a gender and sexuality specialist working primarily with fellow members of the LGBTQIA+ community, neurodivergence (ADHD and autism), trauma, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and disability from a social justice lens. She is passionate about working with tweens and teens, families, queer couples, and polyamory. She sees clients from 6th grade and up, including young adults and adults.

Ashley believes it is important to meet her clients where they are at and explore where they want to go. She believes that creating a path to becoming your most authentic self is one of the most rewarding and challenging acts a person can do for themselves. Ashley is honored to be a part of this process with her clients.

Ashley not only works with individuals, but their families as well. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, she believes that it is important that clients include the systems they belong to and interact with when making changes, be it family of origin, chosen family, and/or local, national, and worldwide systems that impact clients’ lives.

In session, Ashley incorporates different techniques, such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Talk therapy, Group therapy, and Animal-Assisted Interventions. Ashley has a therapy partner, a Labrador Retriever named Jenga, who is part of her practice. Jenga is also Ashley’s service dog and is with her in all therapy sessions.

Her goal when working with families in family therapy is to help them learn to be emotionally available to one another and for family members to create meaning together. Ashley is fully trained in Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). Ashley uses her training to help families learn how to co-regulate with each other during conflict, and then come back and reconnect after conflict to co-create meaning. So many people spend their lives self-regulating that they forget how to co-regulate, essential in being a part of a family system.

Ashley is trained as a Masters level therapist in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), her main modality for working through trauma. ART is a therapy technique that uses eye movements to help rewrite neuropathways in the brain as a way to process and move through trauma. Ashley is also on the Foster Adopt Minnesota therapist list.

Ashley looks forward to meeting you and provides a free meet and greet to all new clients.
