Amber believes our best healing happens when our voices can be heard and she endeavors to create safe and trusting relationships with her clients. She is an LGBTQIA+ ally, who uses a feminist, multicultural, client-centered approach strives to validate and support her clients while also challenging them to meet their own individualized goals as they progress on their healing journeys.
Amber holds a master’s degree in clinical social work from the University of Minnesota, and has over 10 years of experience providing clinical services to in a variety of mental health settings. A majority of her professional career has been providing individual therapy to adults with a focus on the treatment of trauma, PTSD, complex PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, self-esteem issues, life transitions, relationship issues, and boundaries.
She is a certified EMDR therapist, implementing this intervention to reconnect and strengthen the neurological wiring between the thinking and feeling brain to encourage healing and reduce suffering. She utilizes this therapeutic approach in conjunction with other approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and mindfulness.
Amber takes to heart this quote by Terry Real in helping patients heal: “Family pathology rolls from generation to generation like a fire in the woods taking down everything in its path until one person, in one generation, has the courage to turn and face the flames. That person brings peace to his ancestors and spares the children that follow.”
