They/Them

Max (they/them) is a genderqueer, Autistic and ADHD therapist who specializes in working with neurodivergent clients seeking to build more connected, compassionate relationships with themselves and others. As a queer and trans clinician, Max especially enjoys supporting neurodivergent mental health providers and people who are exploring identity, gender, or sexuality in ways that may not fit into traditional boxes.

Max is deeply committed to creating a space that welcomes the full complexity of each client. They enjoy working with queer and trans clients, and their practice is sex positive, kink aware, and affirming of polyamory and other non-traditional relationship structures. In their work with clients, Max centers curiosity, authenticity, and care, inviting people to show up fully and explore what matters most to them.

They aim to create a space that is neurodiversity affirming, non-judgmental, culturally responsive, anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and LGBTQIA+ affirming. Having spent much of their life masking, Max understands how inaccessible and overwhelming the world can be. They are committed to showing up authentically in the therapy room and encourage clients to do the same. Max often crochets or uses other fidgets during sessions to support their sensory needs and welcomes clients to move, stim, or self-regulate in whatever ways feel right to them.

Max is passionate about working with teenagers, young adults, and neurodivergent folks of all ages. Their clinical experience includes supporting clients with anxiety, relational distress, OCD, depression, Autism, ADHD, identity exploration, gender affirming care, life transitions, family of origin concerns, adult children of alcoholics or addicts, substance use, and complex trauma.

They are trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy and work from an attachment-based and emotionally focused lens. Max also integrates psychodynamic, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, strengths-based, and motivational interviewing approaches. They are trained in Sand Tray therapy and enjoy incorporating creative tools such as art, music, and poetry into the therapeutic process.

Max is licensed by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. They are also a BBHT Board Approved Supervisor for LPC and LPCC candidates.
