Nicola Demonte

Nicola Demonte, ALM, MA has over 20 years of experience in mental health and has had a positive impact on his patients, their families and the students he has taught. Prior to joining Lyn Lake Psychotherapy and Wellness, Demonte served at ACP and taught at Saint Xavier University as a full-time faculty member of their Psychology Department.

He has experience treating adults with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, social anxiety disorder, autism, PTSD, ADHD, OCD, Schizophrenia and other mental health conditions. He earned his BS in Psychology from Loyola University Chicago in 1995, a MA in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University in 1998, and a Master of Liberal Arts in the History of Art and Architecture from Harvard University in 2004. Demonte has taught courses such as abnormal psychology, behavior management, adulthood and aging, and art therapy. Demonte has also taught mindfulness classes to treat those with Dementia and trained caregivers of those suffering from Alzheimers.

He is dedicated to research, teaching, and advising his students and assisting them in publishing works that contribute to the scientific discipline of psychology and psychoeducation. Professor Demonte’s current research focuses on examining the connections of autobiographical memory to mindfulness, applications of creative interventions in medical and psychiatric settings, and understanding the role of creativity in psychological assessment to aid in the healing process. Professor Demonte has worked with a wide range of clients that include people that suffer from Alzheimer’s, brain injuries, eating disorders, depression, developmental disorders, and veterans with PTSD. Demonte serves on several boards and organizations and is a member of the Royal Society for Public Health.

In 1998, Demonte received a Carnegie Mellon Grant to conduct research and teach at Loyola University’s Rome Center in Italy. In 2002, he served as a teacher’s assistant at Harvard College. Mr. Demonte, ALM, MA has taught at Universities like Saint Xavier, University of Minnesota, Hamline University, and the College of DuPage. Demonte’s personality denotes a good sense of humor, compassion, inquisitive, creative and cares deeply about his clients. Demonte’s therapy style encompasses a solution-focused, humanistic narrative and creative art’s therapy approach that is flexible to meet the complex needs of his clients.
